I listened to this talk up to the beginning of the question-and-answer session. I am surprised that this method would really capture the essence of Romy's almighty DPOLS condition. It seems to me that Robbins is very much centered on imaging alone, a...

Armen,
If you look somebody to advise you in specifics then you are talking to a wrong person – I do not do it. Well, I do it but ONLY if I feel that the area of attention is very narrow and the question is well-understood by the person who asks. I ...

Jan, I disagree. Obviously the ultimate intention is to listing music not the "imaging" or the “compression” but…. in order to listen music there is no needs for a good playback at all.
Audio and music are very different subjects of human experience...
I agree and understand how important is moving the speakers to find the symmetrical impulse from both channels BUT in microscopic movement we mainly correct the vibration of speakers which indeed effects the whole things.in m...

Stefano, welcome to the club, not the GoodSoundClub but the club of understanding of what is going on.
The subject of drivers in Tailored Audio™ is complicated and one of the biggest problems in this complicity is to defeat the attitude of judgment ...

Hello Romy, been lurking around for some time now, I believe one of the first things I read from you was the DPOLS. Blew me away! Anyway, sometime ago I found an interesting video on youtube regarding a special speaker setup technique. This person sp...
So how do you suppose the proper DPoLS can be located? With a system like Steve Schell and I are working with, everything weighs hundreds of pounds and to properly evaluate changes would take days, maybe even weeks f...

Macondo, because it is prodigiously time aligned has very nerow and well defined listening sweet spot. The only same identical listening spot I heard only from one another loud speaker, it was Wilson Alexandria which was very accurately time alig...

Nasa discovered a new bacterium that substitutes arsenic for phosphorus in it's biochemistry, which literally changes what scientists think life is capable of being.I was here near the beginning and didn't stay too long as my motivations in audio are...

Yep, Bruno. What Bob Robbins describes is exactly what DPOLS is all about. I was very surprised to hear it coming from the tranches of audio community. When I saw you posing a link to some kind of presentation at another audio show I did not click it...

Romy,I say "Go for it"! With your usual documentation, we can only profit from you getting the hernia first. I got mine operated on last week, so looking is all that I can do for the next 3 months. One thing that has always roused my curiosity: your ...

Romy:As you explore best listening position, can you please share how you search for new DPOLs?One thing I never understand is, as you walk around room and talk to yourself, you find places where you sound better or worse. You find some places where ...

Quite a few people send me emails asking about my techniques to trace the DPoLS
http://www.goodsoundclub.com/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?postID=994#994
Sure the DPoLS are practically not known techniques and it is great to “handle” it but there is somethi...

I'll be more than happy if an "audiophile" Santa Clause could show me DPoLS of my speakers!Armen...

It took for us, for the people with brains and ears, a few years to explain to the foolish audiophiles the artificiality of their soundstage objectives. Six years ago when I was tiring explaining to the audio-zombies that soundstage is juts a surroga...

Lets go into more detail. I'm very new to audiophiling-a year and half-which half of it wasted by Moronizm.
Anyhow a friend of mine(Amir who runs a blog about audio) introduced this site to me, and I saw the "real thing". And I specially am obssesed...
Hm you are true in the “terra incognita” territory as far as I concern. The preamps are mystery to me. All my attempts to make any decently sounding preamp or even buffer failed. To me Placette was truly God sent and if I g...
I'm curious about how you set up your horns in the room. From photos it looks as if they are fairly close together, compared to the wide setting you suggested I try, while our room dimensions are fairly similar? When I started push...

I had no idea that DPOLS was such a controversial topic! While I do know a local stereo dealer that believes in setting up speakers based on where they look good (and he sells AvantGardes BTW), I think he does so many other things right to twea...

The ideal horn system would have to be well integrated into the room, acoustically as well as optically/cosmetically. As far as a commercial venture goes, I believe that Marc Henrys "La Grand Castine" was already (except for the ULF dipole panel) ver...
Nah, this thread is not worthy of such a discussion!
The cult of personality? Why now? I have no problems with it, even more… I like it. Being projected to that silly feline’s cult of personality people with “no cult...
I'v read the book (missing a few of the last pages). The boook definetly have som useful information. Especially about setup, placing speakers at different positions and some decent and brief info on acoustic treatment. Unfortunatel...

Excellent post Romy. Definitely the room treatments and speaker locations are probably the most important part of the overall system. I have heard good speaker systems in poor surroundings, if the setup isn't right, nothing c...

Somebody “aehaas” from Florida got new large Wilson and wrote about his experience. The writing was posted at avsforum.com – the site invested by idiots of all calibers, and the comments and responses to the aehaas’s writing are a good evidence o...

Bud, perhaps it does makes sense to try the “dotizm” one again. I quite severely review my view on the way in wish I use tweeter. I still am trying to make T350 to work, let see what I end up with. Nowadays my T350 sitting in 3rd order crossover, it ...

"I am considering hiring Mr. Robbins to set my playback to DPOLS. It might be challenging and there are many other factors that suggest me that I should not be doing it as it is waste of money. What Bruno said and what my former experience tells ...

I was thinking, 4 - 5" drivers might be "too small" for proper tone and "space" for it; better to use as large as possible vs. as small as possible. Your injection channels will satisfy my curiosity on that score, anyway. Good luck with DPOLS for it....

I was suspecting that, when I get a "punchful" sound, the stage gets more compressed and flat. Widening the stage yields a compressed sound, specially in the low midrange-upper bass. I'll try, but I guess these speakers won't ever be at the DPoLS, al...

Dear RomyThanksI try with my friend to find it thought it may be impossible, the most noticable thing about dpols in my view is unbelievable high level of passion and emotion in sound.again, I should thanks you for this article because if i did not f...

As I was not present during the magic moment of the Dunnoys (or Dannoys), I can not assume anything but considering the initial aftermath documented here, perhaps that "moment" had more to do with stars/sun/moon lining up, DPOLS for a week or a speci...
